All I can say is that the Big XII South is going to be and has been very interesting this year. There are some great teams in this division of the Big XII and I think any one of them can take on the Dallas Cowboys. Texas Tech in the Big Game would be entertaining.

Avuncular, You've obviously got two of the best players in the country at Texas Tech, Graham Harrell and Michael Crabtree. In your opinion, can either one win this year's Heisman, or will that be nearly impossible since they may split some votes away from the other one?

Well first of all, I think Texas Tech will have to go undefeated and get to the title game for either Harrell or Crabtree to have any kind of chance at the Heisman. I’ll be honest; Tech doesn’t exactly garner the most respect when it comes to the national media. It’s too easy for them to write off Harrell or Crabtree’s success as “due to the systemâ€. I mean, I still hear some people (Robert Smith of ESPN) putting Colt McCoy as their front runner for Heisman. Nevermind Harrell beat him heads-up, and McCoy threw a pick six in the game (and he had two more INT’s against Baylor on Saturday). I think I’ve said this in another thread, but the name “Texas Tech†doesn’t resonate with the media like other schools do. ESPN and other media sources don’t get the hard-ons for Tech like they do with schools like Ohio State, USC, Florida, Texas, etc, etc., etc. A significant variable in the equation is the name on the front of your jersey, just the way it goes.

Sorry, back to your original question. I think right now, despite all my bitching in the previous paragraph, Graham Harrell is the Heisman frontrunner. And if Tech does go undefeated and makes it to the title game, I see no way around giving it to Harrell. In the history of the Heisman Trophy (since 1935), only TWO wide receivers have won the award (Tim Brown and Desmond Howard) and only ONE underclassman has won (Tebow last year). So right away, Crabtree has those two stats going against him. He might very well be the best player in college football, but the award has traditionally been given to quarterbacks first and running backs second. So, if Tech goes undefeated and gets to the title game, and with Harrell putting up the insane numbers he is, I’m pretty sure he’d get the vast majority of first place votes.

THANK YOU IOWA!!! They just about assured us of a Big XII/SEC national championship game. No offense to Penn State, but I think it's obvious they didn't belong on the big stage.

I don't get it either. I would think the Nebraska/Kansas game would draw more interest and be more interesting. I hate shelling out 30 bucks for the game, but I guess I will.

Well I didn't get to see that game, but I'd be very excited if I was a Husker fan. You're already bowl eligible with two more games to go, and you could very well end up 8-4 (at K-State and Colorado at home to finish up, two very winnable games). Not a bad first season for Pelini...could have been much worse, just look at what's going on in Ann Arbor. Once Pelini gets his own athletes on that roster, I think Nebraska is going to again dominate the Big XII North. Kansas was a blip on the radar last season, Mizzou is not going to be as good with Daniel leaving (and possibly Pinkel for Washington), Colorado is going no where under Hawkins, K-State doesn't have a head coach, and Iowa State is always terrible. Yes, the future is bright for Big Red.

I went to the game again this weekend, and even though it wasn't as dramatic as the Texas game, I still loved every moment. I expected Tech to win, but not by 36! I expect these next two weeks to drag by very, very slooooooowly in anticipation of that Oklahoma game in Norman. Tech is 10-0, first time they've gotten to double-digits in the win column under Leach. It'll be tough, but I hope Gerald Myers can convince Leach to stick around in Lubbock.

No apology necessary. I'm sure most of America would rather see that game. Can't see USC jumping all the way up to number 2 though...a lot of craziness would have to happen. Oh, wait a minute...this is college football, where just about ANYTHING is possible.

Me too. Almost went to Michigan State out of high school since my uncle and aunt went there, and one of my cousins is currently Spartan. Next to Texas Tech (and Notre Dame), State is the only other team I root for. If they win out, a Rose Bowl might be in the cards for them. Of course, they'd need your Buckeyes to lose again.

I want Michigan State to win so my Buckeyes can go to The Rose Bowl. Some are saying that if Penn State wins out and goes to the Rose we will get a BCS game. I guess they would want our huge fan base.

I was wondering if anyone is REALLY...... that impressed with Tebow. It just seems to me like he calls his own number way to much. It's like if he's near the goal line he's running it in. I know why he had to last year,but this year he has some talented backs. If you were an elite back why would you go to Florida while Tebow is there? Unless you break a long touchdown run he's going to call his own number inside the 20. I'm not saying he isn't talented I just think he is a huge ball hog inside the 20. Vince Young could have had just as many rushing touchdowns as Tebow and probably won the heisman,but he would hand off to his talented backs. I think Tebow should do that more. I bet some of those running backs are thinking the same thing. By the way Urban Meyer give Tebow the power to make those calls. It's not Meyers fault.

Well I admittedly haven't watched too many snaps of Gator football this season, but I'll give you my opinion on Tebow. Last year, I'd agree with you 100%....Tebow's numbers were crazy. And yes, that was mainly out of necessity. This year, his rushing yards and TD's are both down because he has more offensive weapons to spread the wealth with. It's really an embarrassment of riches Tebow has to work with, when you talk about guys like Percy Harvin, Jeff Demps (freshman), Chris Rainey (freshman), Deonte Thompson (freshman), etc., etc. etc. Florida is a better team this year because Tebow doesn't have to do it all by himself.

Last year, did Tebow deserve the Heisman? Maybe. But if the award is supposed to go to college football's best player, I don't know how Darren McFadden didn't win.

Yea his numbers are down this year,but now that there is more heisman talk he is calling his own number a lot more. It's like every time he is inside the 10 or 20 he's running it. If I was a back there I would get kind of angry. I just think he is ball hogging again so he can get more heisman numbers. Nothing against the guy I just think thats kinda selfish.

Yeah, tough to argue with those numbers he accumulated. Then again, Texas Tech QB's do the same thing every year (put up numbers), yet they're usually denigrated, until this season, fortunately.

But I do think Tebow deserved it. Would I have voted him first place? Probably would have given that to McFadden...to me, he was the best player last year. Can't argue with anyone who voted Tebow though.
