You select your five favorites from a list of only 147 songs – Being With You is listed twice – and there is a space for a single write-in vote. It is almost a certainty that the top 80 songs will be from that list. The list includes five Whitney Houston songs and two by an artist the channel is still referring to as "John Cougar."

Two-hundred thirty-one songs went to number one in the 1980s. That list excludes 26% of them. Ideally, the list would have included at least every top-ten hit and spaces for five write-in votes.

They probably already know what songs they want in the countdown. I won't bother listening ... will just wait for the C98 list to be posted.

Oldies KRTH in Los Angeles played an annual listener-voted July 4 "Firecracker 300" in the 1980s-90s. From 1982 to 1986, when we could vote for any song that was more than six months old, the countdown included quite a few recent hits among the oldies. In 1997, music director Jay Coffey cut the playlist down to just 330 songs. KRTH published the list and we had to select our five favorites from among those 330. We knew all but 30 of those songs would be on the Top 300; we just didn't know in what order.

What SiriusXM is doing is worse: "Pick from these 147 1980s songs and all but 67 will be on the top 80; you just won't know in what order until we start playing them." And they call this a "full countdown"? It isn't.
