Slacker is a lot less work. More programmers to do the work for you, and better variety. You can tweak the stations to your liking, make them as deep or as hits-based as you want. It's superior to Pandora by a wide margin. I have both but use Slacker WAY more.

When I was trying out both, I liked Slacker more.

Better interface, and as Jon & Hectic mentioned... 'Deeper' library.

I see we have consensus! Now if we could just get this in the political forum....

OK Fine. . . .

Obama likes Slacker.

Bush likes Pandora.

McCain doesn't know what a computer is.

Palin thinks computers are for the elitists and should run on seal oil.

Christine O'Donnell is still a witch.

Oh.

That wasn't what you meant. . . ?

Another vote for Slacker....never tired Pandora to be fair.

I like the preset channels, the ability to edit those pre-existing channels, I like the cheap G1 player, and it's free.

My vote is for Slacker.

It's like the difference between:
"choose a radio station you can tweak" and "you just arrived in town and it's your job to set up every radio station from scratch"

I tend to use Pandora more. When you enter an artist, I think Pandora does a better job of categorizing music by song.

Slacker only seems to do this based solely on artist. This is bad for artists who crossed over different genres. If I try to build a modern jazz/fusion stationby starting with the band Return to Forever, both services would play music from Miles Davis and Herbie Hancock (two artists who have recorded both traditional jazz and modern jazz songs). Pandora seems to be much more streamlined to playing just playing Davis's and Hancock's modern jazz music. When I start banning those traditional jazz songs on Slacker, Slacker starts to think I want to hear none (or very little) of their music.

Even after a lot of loving and banning I still don't really get the station I want. Of course I am only using the free service; I don't know if some of these problems would go away with the paid service.

For the pre-programmed stations, I prefer Slacker, but when creating my own stations, Pandora has been working out better for me.

I've been trying to use both of them, but I find that I prefer just listening to the music I already own. I got fed up with both of them when I wanted to hear Dr. John's version of Iko Iko and neither one had it.

Slacker; more customizable versus Pandora.

Absolutely... hands down Slacker! Pandora even vs Slacker in terms of library is better. Yet services like MOG, Rhapsody both kick their butts in terms of library size.

I use MOG right now for my in-demand service. What music I own now will likely be the only music I ever own. I just don't see a need to buy music with services such as these.

Nonetheless giving the two choices of the original poster, I have to pick Slacker. I can make stations be just exactly what I want them to be without very much issue, but I do pay for a plus sub.
