Couldn't find a thread about this. I enjoy online party games like Quiplash, Gartic Phone, Skribbl.io, Fibbage, etc. If I have an hour before bed, sometimes I'll go on Twitch and find someone streaming a game and play along.

I found one a couple weeks ago called Whatsamusic and I'm addicted. I joined a game last night and won 4 times in a row.

Everyone picks a song, then everybody has to guess the songs all the other players chose. You get a 20 second clip and have to type in the title. If you get the artist instead, you still get points (just less). Often there is a theme like "songs about food" or "songs with an animal in the title" or "songs with a color in the title" and everyone is supposed to pick a song that qualifies.

I share this not only because others here might enjoy it, but since most of us (all of us??) are music fans and aficionados, if there's any interest in picking a night and having a DRC Whatsamusic night I'd be willing to learn how to host/stream it. Don't worry (if it's a concern), none of you will be on camera or even have your voice heard. You just watch the stream and enter your guesses. You can use the guessing area also as a chat area (type whatever you want).

Any interest?

I hosted a round of Whatsamusic last Friday with my friend, his kid and his kid's friend. It was easy for me to figure out. In order to play, all the other people need to do is load a web page. The window where you type in your song guesses can also be used as chat. Easy peasy.

We were also on Discord so we could talk to each other, but it's not necessary.

1. Load the web page, click join
2. Person running it sets a theme
3. Everyone picks a song (type it into search box, listen to clip, select it)
4. A clip plays, type in the song title (or artist for less points)
5. After all clips play, see who won.
6. Usually the winner picks the next theme.

Closest thread I could find.

This was not a competitive game against a real opponent. It was just against the computer for bonus stuff. But that's the highest I ever scored in 1 move on Words With Friends.

BTW, in my next move, I scored 111 more points for making a word by adding an 'S'.

Holy CRAP! Amazing
I just regret it wasn't against you. :D Although I wouldn't have come up with that particular word against an opponent (but now I would).

BTW, my version of WWF shows "word strength", which is how close my word is to the max-point word. So if I put down a word that's say 30 points, and the strength meter is only halfway up, I know there are other words (perhaps in other places) that are worth much more. Interestingly, the word strength meter isn't linear. I think that's on purpose.

I used to have that, but it's gone. I wonder why.

In my other game (I'm only playing against you and my on-hiatus band's previous singer), I put "coach" down and realized my remaining letters were O / U / T. So I said, "maybe outcouch outcoach is a word?" Right here as I type this, outcouch outcoach has red squiggles under it (indicating it's not actually a word), but WWF -- IT TOOK IT! 62 POINTS!

I can't tell you how many times I have heard commentators talk about how much one coach has outcoached the other. Given the large number of stupid words being added to the dictionary, maybe it has snuck in a recent update.

The Merriam-Webster Dictionary says "outcoach" dates from 1886 and means "to defeat or outdo by superior coaching." Mister sadchild's word was "outcouch," which is not in any dictionary – but it is a psychotherapy website:

"Couch" means "to put into words; express or phrase in a certain way." I suppose "outcouch" could be a word, meaning "to phrase or express something better than (another person)."

I think the might fit more if it was a casting couch.

Of course you're all wondering what was the first number-one song with "Out" in the title. It was Take Me Out To The Ball Game by Billy Murray and the Haydn Quartet in October 1908. The group was bass William Hooley, baritone S.H. Dudley (real name: Samuel Holland Rous) and tenors John Bieling and Harry McDonough. Murray, a tenor born in 1877 in Philadelphia to Irish immigrant parents, sings lead on this but was not credited on the label.
