So-so Sound Quality

I am a new Sirius XM in car user. I live in rural MT where radio signals are weak. I was tired of the static and the only other option as canned music- CDs. I am getting better reception on my Sirius radio than my poor FM signal, but it is still So-so Sound Quality. It sounds "tinny" or sort of like from a barrel. News programs are hard to understand without it turned way up. I have my antennae mounted on the dash so that I can easily use move the radio to my other car- is this the problem? I prefer it to be portable and no so complicated to intall. I used a hard wire line to my auxillary in on my Prius and was getting a slight "whining" noise or whistl, but then I tried it sending its own FM signal and found it was better reception oddly enough. Any ideas, oh experienced SiriusXM ones?

The whine in the Prius is due to a ground loop created by having the radio plugged into the aux jack and a 12 volt source. You can get a ground loop isolation cable that will remove all of the whine. This is a common fault on Toyota vehicles.

The tinny sound is a result of the compression that SiriusXM uses and I have not found a workaround. So far the commercial free aspects of the music outweigh the tinny sound for me.
