Someone said that the Sportster 5 gets a few additional Canadian(?) channels that other US-based radios don't get.

Any clue as to what these channels are? I'm sure I wouldn't listen to them, but more channels for the same price is always a good thing, right?

I have the Sirius PowerConnect and a SUBX1 boombox, so I obviously can make the switch from the Starmate 4. I've heard the Sportster 5 is a bit of a tight fit, compared to other radios.

Not a tight fit. It is just a bit larger, but that's it. As for getting extra channels, I have never heard that and don't think it's true. Channel specific stuff has more to do with your subscription than with the radio. Do you have a US Sirius sub or a Canadian one? If it's Canadian, I could be wrong about this being subscription specific. Overall I just don't think that's true. I will look into it though.

There are a few Canadian channels that I don't get on my Sportster Replay (and my OEM radio). The few that come to mind are 96, 97, and 98.

Ahh.. I'm almost positive I get those ones on my SL. And yeah, it's possible the older radios don't get those channels. In other words, the new channels are not a big deal now that I know what they are.
