What do "Dreams" and "A Horse With No Name" have in common?

"Now here you go again
You are a horse with no name
Well, who am I to keep you here?
It's only right that you should run off through the desert
But listen carefully
To America's song about you
It drives IdRatherBeSkiing mad
In the stillness of remembering DRC's '70s Madness
Your song has lost
IRBS is glad
Your song has lost
Oh, thunder only happens when it's rainin'
IRBS doesn't like your song when he's listenin'
Better songs, they will come and they will go
When you have to be euthanized, you'll know
You'll know"

Jello Biafra

Jello update. Jello is progressing nicely. His speech has mostly come back in full, and cognitively, it’s like the stroke never happened. The left side is still weak but it is doing much better than it was. He has been living with me so I can care for him, but he is so much more self sufficient than he was, he will most likely go home this coming week. Thank you again for the outpouring of support. It has meant the world to him.

I was poking around the YouTubes, and I came across this trailer for a documentary that's supposed to come out this year, about WNEW FM in NYC, which I grew up listening to.

Here is a telescoped aircheck of Alison Steele on WNEW-FM, February 14 1977. Shaun Cassidy's remake of the Ronettes' Da Doo Ron Ron wasn't released until March so you won't hear it here. Sorry. As for Allison: "Talk talk talk talk talk talk talk talk talk talk talk talk talk talk talk talk talk talk talk talk talk talk talk talk talk talk!"

Yes, it was a very freeform broadcast, especially at night time. Ratings and getting a lot of songs on the air wasn't the priority. If you wanted that, but still liked a rock radio format, you would tune to 95.5 WPLJ. They not only played a lot of songs each hour, but were known to speed up the playback, so they could squeeze-in more commercials with the songs.

Mark Goodman moved from a Philly station to WPLJ in 1980, but soon left for some experimental startup, called MTV.

They were known to speed up the playback

From 1965 to 1980, KHJ in Los Angeles did the same. They had a device that would speed up the songs by 5% without changing the pitch. Program director Ron Jacobs said the sped-up songs sounded "brighter." Of course everyone who heard songs on KHJ and bought records couldn't understand why the records sounded slow.
